These days, mommy makeovers are among the most popular cosmetic procedures for women. They usually entail bundling different procedures together, such as a tummy tuck and a breast lift or augmentation, to dramatically restore a woman’s body after pregnancy. With multiple procedures being performed at the same time, special considerations should be taken during the recovery process. If you’re thinking of getting a mommy makeover, here is what you can expect in the weeks after your surgery.
Weeks 1 and 2 Post-Surgery
The first week after surgery is typically the most intense. Most of your time will be spent resting and you will likely be on prescription pain medication. Throughout the day, you should get up and slowly move around your home to encourage circulation, which will speed up healing and prevent clots from forming in your lower body. You should have a trusted friend or family member help you with basic tasks and errands during this stage.
Rest is still important by the second week, but you will be able to wean off your prescription-strength medications. It’s normal to feel aching or sore at this time, which can be managed with over-the-counter medication like acetaminophen. At this point, you will probably be able to return to work if you have a light desk job.
Weeks 3 and 4 Post-Surgery
By the third week, you will see much less swelling and bruising and the final results of your surgery will become more apparent. Your body is still healing, though. You may experience bouts of fatigue or exhaustion, even emotion, as you go about your day, so continue to prioritize getting enough rest. Make a point of taking short, daily walks to keep your blood circulating.
You may start feeling closer to normal in the fourth week, which is when many patients will be cleared to do slightly more activities. Most of the swelling will be gone, and you may experience an uptick in your energy levels. Light exercise is generally considered safe, but you should consult your surgeon beforehand.
Weeks 5 and 6 Post-Surgery
At this point, you will be mostly healed and able to enjoy your new body. You will probably need to buy new clothes or bras that fit your new shape. At the six-week mark, you can ease into your prior workout routine, but heavy weights or very intense workouts should be put off for another week or two.
