What is Latisse®?
Latisse® is the brand name for a medication called bimatoprost that has been approved by the FDA to treat hypotrichosis or insufficient eyelash growth. Latisse® makes eyelashes grow naturally darker, fuller, thicker, and longer. The efficacy of bimatoprost as a treatment for insufficient eyelash growth was discovered when the medication was marketed originally as a remedy to treat glaucoma. Patients and doctors noticed quickly that the medication increased the growth and fullness of eyelashes. Eventually, the product was redesigned for this purpose and marketed as Latisse®.
Alphaeon Beauty EyeLash Serum is a highly recommended alternate product for those concerned about Latisse side effects or those who prefer a non-prescription yet strong alternative. Dr. Saluja personally uses this product. Click here for more information or to purchase at our For Your Best Self-store.
How Does Latisse® Work?
Latisse® is a liquid formula that is applied along the base of the lash line of the upper eyelid using a fine-tipped brush. Latisse® should not be used on the lower eyelid. Over time, with regular applications, eyelashes grow longer, thicker, and darker. The full benefit of Latisse® treatments will be visible in about two to four months. Once the desired result is obtained, decrease from daily use to two to three times weekly use. We advise use in the morning. We also advise some patients to use Latisse on their eyebrows. We do not advise the use of Latisse if your upper eyelid skin is tight such as post-blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery). Please bear in mind that Latisse® treatment results depend on the continuous use of the product; once you discontinue use, eyelashes will gradually return to their previous condition.
How can Latisse® improve my appearance?
Latisse® restores eyelash growth in men and women with alopecia and anyone whose eyelashes have become thin and sparse. Thick, full eyelashes rejuvenate the entire eye area, imparting a more youthful appearance to the face. Of patients who used Latisse® as directed for a period of at least two months during clinical trials, 100 percent reported longer, thicker or darker eyelashes, while 80 percent experienced all three benefits!
Am I a Good Candidate for Latisse®?
You must be an adult over 18 and in good health, not have any contraindicated conditions, and suspend any medications that are contraindicated with Latisse® in order to be considered for treatment. If you have any irritations, allergies, or infections affecting the eye area, you must wait until the condition subsides to be treated. We do not advise the use of Latisse if your upper eyelid skin is tight such as post-blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery)
