Plastic surgery allows men and women an opportunity to optimize their overall aesthetic and reclaim their youthful appearance, and reconstructive surgery provides a sense of normalcy. Once you decide to undergo Plastic or Reconstructive Surgery, it is imperative that you seek out a qualified medical practice with skilled and experienced board-certified doctors, such as Dermatology + Plastic Surgery. Led by Rebecca Novo, MD, a double board-certified plastic surgeon, and Anita Saluja, MD, a board-certified dermatologist, our practice offers plastic and reconstructive surgery, medical skin care, cancer screening and treatments, medical spa treatments, and other dermatological treatments for residents of Melbourne, Viera, Brevard County, and the surrounding communities of Central Florida.
Plastic or cosmetic surgery includes any combination of surgical procedures performed to correct, enhance, or rejuvenate the appearance of the face and body. Plastic surgery treats a variety of conditions including wrinkles, sagging skin, scars, fatty deposits, imperfections from birth defects, prior illness, surgery, or injuries, as well as the impact of aging, extreme weight loss, or pregnancy. Plastic surgery may also be indicated for patients who have undergone surgery to treat diseases such as cancer. Patients who undergo plastic surgery or reconstructive surgery to improve their appearance also typically experience an increase in their self-confidence and well-being.
If you are a healthy adult over the age of 18 who has no contraindicated conditions, you may be an ideal candidate for plastic surgery. Plastic surgery is safe for most adults, and some corrective surgeries may even be performed on children. Learn about the procedures that you are interested in and keep your expectations reasonable. A consultation with one of our specialists at Dermatology + Plastic Surgery can evaluate whether or not you are a suitable candidate for plastic surgery, as well as which procedures may be right for you.
We offer the following procedures:
We recommend that you plan your surgery with ample time in advance so as to clear major projects and plans off your plate and schedule in the time required for your recovery period. You should also engage a team of helpers or a support system that will help you manage your daily needs during recovery depending on what type of procedure you choose to have. At your initial consultation, our staff will evaluate your medical history, noting any problems that may be hereditary, and assess any medications you are taking. In some cases, you may need to suspend certain medications for a period of time in order to prepare for surgery.
You should plan to be at our practice for an entire day. Upon your arrival, our staff will ask you to remove your clothing and put on a surgical gown. Your comfort is our primary concern, and we will see to it that you remain comfortable at all times. Depending on what type of procedure you are undergoing preparations will be taken to relieve you of any discomfort, so you may be given a sedative or the treatment area may be numbed with a topical anesthetic to prevent you from feeling any discomfort during the procedure. Every surgery is unique, and many factors affect each procedure, so the length of time it may take to perform your surgery will vary depending on the procedure being performed.
Every individual recovery is different and depends on the extent of your surgical procedure, as well as your age, gender, and lifestyle. Each procedure has unique detailed post-operative instructions that our staff will explain to you verbally and in writing. It is important that you follow these instructions carefully and commit to allowing yourself the time to recover properly. Often the wearing of compression garments is required. These garments vary according to the area of the body in which you’ve had your procedure, as well as your gender. Our team will support you through every step of the recovery process with information and recovery tips for each procedure.
Depending on your procedure results may be visible immediately after surgery, but the full results will become visible once all of the swelling has subsided and the tissue has healed and settled into its new position. This may be a matter of days, weeks, or months depending on the extent of the surgery and your own body’s unique ability to heal.
Although many surgical procedures are considered permanent, plastic surgery cannot prevent the ongoing effects of the aging process or weight fluctuations that may affect your appearance as you continue to age. Over time, you may develop new aesthetic concerns that may require follow-up treatments in the future.
Every surgery is different. Some leave minimal visible scarring, such as very thin, hairline scars that are easily camouflaged under clothing or hair, and in many instances, these fade over time and become virtually invisible. Some procedures leave more visible scars in order to achieve the desired result (for example abdominoplasty or “tummy tuck”), in these instances, they will be skillfully designed with you preoperatively to be optimally hidden by undergarments or clothing.
Because each procedure is tailored to each individual patient and every case is different, the cost will vary between patients. You may choose to undergo more than one procedure in one session or to include ongoing follow-up treatments. To keep costs affordable for all our patients, our office provides financing and flexible payment options.
