For radiant, luminous skin and a reduction of wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, acne, acne scars, and facial blemishes, Dermatology + Plastic Surgery, led by board-certified dermatologist Anita Saluja, MD and double board-certified plastic surgeon Rebecca Novo, MD, provides an array of medical grade chemical peels for residents of Melbourne, Indialantic, Viera, Brevard County, the beaches, and surrounding areas.
A chemical peel is a non-invasive exfoliation and collagen stimulation procedure that produces healthier and smoother skin by gently removing the outermost layer of the dermis, along with dead skin cells, pollutants, and minor imperfections that are present on that outer layer. Sunspots, acne scars, and discoloration are improved.
Although most chemical peels are used to improve facial skin, other areas on the body may also benefit from chemical peels, such as the neck, hands, or décolleté area. A chemical peel can benefit you if you have any of the following skin conditions:
A chemical peel can benefit almost any healthy man or woman, although the procedure is not recommended for individuals who are pregnant or nursing.
There are a number of different chemical peels to choose from, and they vary in composition, goal, and strength. Some formulas correct only the outermost layer of skin, while others treat deeper layers beneath the surface. Deeper peels are considered more invasive and require a lengthier recovery period but produce more dramatic results. Two of our most common peels are The Vi Peel and APEELE™.
A chemical peel takes about a half hour to complete the treatment. First, the face is thoroughly cleansed, then the chemical peel solution is applied to the surface of the skin. You may feel a mild stinging sensation during this part of the process. The chemical solution is left on the skin for a period of several minutes, and then gently removed. At this point, patients can leave and resume regular activities. A few days after the treatment, the skin will begin to peel, much like a sunburn. This peeling process gradually exposes a smoother, healthier-looking layer of new skin, as your skin sheds the old, damaged cells of the outer layer. Chemical peels may also be combined with other cosmetic procedures such as plastic surgery, liposuction, and injectable dermal fillers. A series of peels and at-home skin care is recommended for best results. Visit our For Your Best Self-online store for medical-grade skin care products.
Depending on the type of chemical peel, full recovery may take up to 7 to 10 days with peeling, skin sensitivity, and redness during this period. The new layer of skin that emerges after a chemical peel is extremely sensitive to sunlight, so it is important that you wear protective clothing and use sunscreen at all times when going outdoors, especially during the first few weeks after treatment. In men, shaving of facial hair must also be postponed during the recovery period after a chemical peel so as not to shave off delicate skin cells. A series of peels and at-home skin care is recommended for best results.
The cost of a chemical peel depends on which peel you choose, but peels are relatively inexpensive procedures. Estimates range from $150 to $400. To manage payment for our services, our office accepts various forms of payment for your ease and convenience.
