At Dermatology + Plastic Surgery, led by board-certified dermatologist Anita Saluja, MD, and double board-certified plastic surgeon Rebecca Novo, MD, we are now offering XTRAC® 308nm excimer laser therapy for residents of Melbourne, Indialantic, Viera, Satellite Beach, Cocoa Beach, Brevard County, and surrounding areas in Central Florida.

XTRAC is an FDA-cleared, targeted UVB phototherapy that treats affected skin directly while sparing the surrounding healthy skin. It is dermatologist-recommended for mild to moderate psoriasis, vitiligo, and atopic dermatitis (eczema), including cases that have not responded well to topical treatment or that involve localized or difficult-to-treat areas of the body.
XTRAC uses a focused 308nm excimer laser to deliver precise doses of UVB light exactly where it is needed, without exposing uninvolved skin to unnecessary ultraviolet light. This targeted approach allows for a more concentrated, effective dose than traditional full-body phototherapy, with less overall UV exposure.
The XTRAC excimer laser has been FDA-cleared since 2000 and is recommended by dermatologists nationwide, including our own Dr. Anita Saluja, Dr. Alexandra Grammenos, and Dr. Akhil Gupta, as a safe, drug-free option for patients managing chronic inflammatory skin conditions.
During treatment, the excimer laser’s beam targets the T-cells and inflammatory processes driving the affected skin, calming the overactive immune response behind psoriasis and eczema. For vitiligo, the laser stimulates melanocyte activity to encourage repigmentation in depigmented areas. Because the beam can be precisely directed, XTRAC can be used virtually anywhere on the body, including hard-to-reach areas like the scalp, elbows, knees, hands, and feet.
XTRAC is FDA-cleared for the treatment of:
If you have a condition you think may benefit from XTRAC, or you simply are not sure whether it is a good fit, we are happy to discuss it with you during a consultation.

Good candidates include patients with localized or treatment-resistant psoriasis, vitiligo, or eczema, particularly those who would prefer a targeted, non-systemic treatment over broader-body phototherapy or ongoing topical medications. XTRAC may be appropriate for patients of nearly any age, including children, and is often considered when topical therapy alone has not provided adequate relief.
The best way to find out if XTRAC is right for you is through a consultation with our team. We will review your diagnosis, treatment history, and goals, and confirm insurance coverage before beginning treatment.
XTRAC treatments are performed in our office and typically take just a few minutes, depending on the size and number of areas being treated. No numbing or anesthesia is needed, and there is no downtime, so you can return to your normal activities right away.
Most patients are treated two to three times per week, with the total number of sessions depending on the condition being treated, your skin type, and how you respond. Many patients notice improvement within the first several treatments.
In clinical studies cited by the manufacturer, XTRAC has achieved up to 95% clearance in patients with mild to moderate psoriasis, 75% improvement in repigmentation for patients with vitiligo, and an 81% reduction in itch for patients with eczema within four weeks. Results vary by individual, and most patients experience several months free of symptoms following a treatment course. As with any UVB-based treatment, some patients experience a sunburn-like reaction or blistering at the treatment site, and a temporary increase in pigmentation can occur. We will talk through what results and side effects to expect for your specific skin type and condition.
XTRAC is available by prescription and is generally covered by most major insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, when the treatment is medically necessary and appropriately coded. Our team will verify your coverage as part of your consultation.
