BACKGROUND

Dr. Akhil Gupta was born and raised in South Florida, where the sunshine, saltwater, and diverse culture have always felt like home. He is a graduate of Pine Crest School in Fort Lauderdale and went on to earn degrees from the University of Iowa and Florida Atlantic University before completing medical school at Nova Southeastern University College of Medicine. His training continued with an internship, a dermatology residency, and an advanced fellowship focused on MOHS and cosmetic dermatologic surgery, all completed in South Florida. That training laid the groundwork for the surgical precision, clinical judgment, and patient-centered mindset he brings to practice today.

PROFESSIONAL

Dr. Gupta is a double board-certified dermatologist and MOHS micrographic surgeon, which allows him to bring focused expertise to diagnosing and treating complex skin conditions, including skin cancer. He holds membership in the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and stays involved in the field through clinical research and published scholarly work. He also serves as an attending physician, mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows as they develop into skilled, compassionate clinicians and surgeons in their own right.

Fewer than 900 physicians nationwide hold MOHS board certification, a distinction Dr. Gupta carries as a reflection of his commitment to excellence in skin cancer surgery and patient outcomes. His practice also extends into men’s aesthetic dermatology and dermatologic care tailored to individuals with skin of color, areas where he believes personalized, culturally informed treatment makes a meaningful difference.

His Approach

Continuity of care matters to Dr. Gupta. From the initial consultation through the final follow-up, patients work directly with him rather than being passed between providers. He makes himself personally accessible, including by text, so patients always know they have a knowledgeable, dedicated specialist in their corner. That accessibility is central to how he practices medicine, and it’s what allows patients to feel genuinely cared for and confident in their treatment.

For Dr. Gupta, practicing medicine is also a way of investing in the community that raised him. Choosing to build his career in South Florida was a deliberate decision: this is where he grew up, and where he wants to give back.

Outside the clinic, he’s a husband and father first, and that role shapes how he thinks about health, connection, and community well-being. He regularly volunteers his time offering free consultations at local health fairs and community events, guided by the belief that a healthy community depends on more than what happens inside the exam room. To his patients and neighbors alike, Dr. Gupta isn’t just a physician; he’s a familiar face genuinely invested in the health of the South Florida community he calls home.
