Botox, or Botulinum toxin type A, is a neurotoxin that reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. It is a safe treatment that causes temporary muscle relaxation. In fact, Botox is one of the most studied and tested medical aesthetic treatments available.
Using a piece of paper as comparison, fold a piece of paper over and over, the creases become deeper. Botox injections will smooth the skin so it doesn’t fold along those lines repeatedly, which means that wrinkles can’t form.
The average cost of Botox is $11 to $12 per unit. Recommended by your practitioner, the number of units you will need is based on your evaluation and consultation, desired end-result and areas treated. Botox typically lasts 3-4 months, but everyone metabolizes it differently.
Before getting Botox, Jeuveau or Dysport, avoid Aspirin and related pain medication, as well as vitamin E & fish oil, for one week prior to decrease bruising. Injection bumps will subside within 20 minutes. You may use Tylenol or Ibuprofen if you have a headache. Do not massage or manipulate the injection site for 4 hours. If possible, stay in an upright posture, do not lie down, exercise or get overheated for at least 4 hours.
