If you are a man or woman who is unhappy with the appearance of your breasts, breast enhancement surgery may be the solution you seek to improve your physical appearance and self-esteem. Dermatology + Plastic Surgery, led by double board-certified plastic surgeon Rebecca Novo, MD, and board-certified dermatologist Anita Saluja, MD, provides breast enhancement surgery, as well as other cosmetic procedures for residents of Melbourne, Viera, Brevard County, and nearby communities in the Central Florida area.
Breast enhancement may include any combination of surgical procedures that improve the size, shape, firmness, and symmetry of the breasts and chest. Breast enhancement procedures may include breast augmentation, breast reduction, breast reconstruction, breast lift, implant removal or replacement, revisions to prior breast surgery, and gynecomastia surgery, which reduces excess breast tissue in men.
Dermatology + Plastic Surgery proudly provides personalized breast enhancement procedures that may include a combination of any of the following.
Breast augmentation increases the size and projection of the breasts by inserting implants beneath the breast tissue and/ or chest (pectoralis) muscle.
Some patients may wish to replace current breast implants with implants of a different size or shape, or in some cases, to remove the implants altogether. Breast implant removal is most often performed quickly and safely using the original surgical incision sites to prevent additional scarring.
A breast lift, or mastopexy surgery, is another very common procedure that lifts sagging breasts, yielding a more youthful and full appearance in the breasts.
Breast reduction, or mammoplasty, reduces the size, fullness, and weight of the breasts, and may be performed on one or both breasts. This procedure reduces strain on the back and shoulders often caused by balancing the weight of unusually large breasts. Depending on symptoms and severity, some patients will qualify for insurance coverage of this procedure. Our team will perform a thorough history and physical to help determine this.
Breast reconstruction is performed for the purpose of reconstructing natural-looking symmetric breasts following mastectomy or breast removal resulting from breast cancer or another illness or injury. Breast reconstruction surgery reconstructs the patient’s original breasts as closely as possible. This process may include a single surgery but more often requires several stages to achieve the final result.
Gynecomastia is the abnormal presence of enlarged breast tissue in males and is quite common. Male breast reduction surgery is performed on men and sometimes adolescent males to reduce the excess tissue. Depending on your individual condition, the procedure may be performed using either liposuction alone, surgery, or a combination.
Women, as well as men, may wish to change the size, shape, volume, firmness, symmetry or overall appearance of their breast tissue in order to rejuvenate their appearance, create more definition and contour in the body, or to address specific issues with the breasts that may result from aging, pregnancy or dramatic weight loss.
Breast enhancement may be performed on almost any adult who is in good general health and has no contraindicated conditions. A consultation with one of our specialists can help you learn more about breast enhancement, whether you are a good candidate for a breast enhancement procedure, and what you can expect from the procedure.
Since every procedure is personalized, every individual’s recovery process varies. This is influenced by factors such as your age, gender, and general lifestyle, as well as the procedure itself. Patients commonly experience mild discomfort for two to three days after the procedure. You may also be required to wear a special compression garment to protect the tissue and help the body adapt to its new shape. For men, it may be a compression shirt or vest, while women may wear a compression bra. Most patients resume normal non-strenuous activities after a week. Once the post-operative swelling has subsided over the course of a few weeks, your results will be fully visible, and you may gradually resume normal activities. We typically require patients to wait six weeks prior to resuming vigorous exercise. We always encourage walking post-operatively to reduce complications such as blood clots. Our compassionate and knowledgeable staff will be on hand throughout your recovery process to support and guide you every step of the way, providing verbal and written instructions for your recovery.
Cosmetic procedures vary in price because each procedure is tailored to each individual patient, and a combination of several procedures may be indicated. Health insurance may cover breast enhancement surgeries in some cases, but most breast enhancement procedures are not normally covered. To assist our patients with payment for cosmetic procedures, our office provides financing opportunities and flexible payment options.
