Q: WHAT IS SKINPEN MICRONEEDLING?

“SkinPen Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that utilizes a special SkinPen Microneedling device to trigger the skin to increase collagen production, improving the overall volume, elasticity, and firmness of the skin.

SkinPen Microneedling done in our office is customized and often at deeper depths of needle penetration for improved results than microneedling done outside of a medical practice. At Dermatology + Plastic Surgery, we combine SkinPen Microneedling with growth factor application, with platelet rich plasma (PRP), or with radiofrequency (RF).”

Q: WHAT CONDITIONS ARE TREATED WITH SKINPEN MICRONEEDLING?

“SkinPen Microneedling is effective in treating the following conditions of the skin:

• Diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
• Reduces sun damage
• Prevents premature aging of the skin

Q: WHAT MAKES SKINPEN MICRONEEDLING SO POPULAR?

“This procedure has earned wide popularity among patients and doctors alike because it triggers collagen production while keeping the top layer of the skin intact. This greatly reduces recovery time, and patients often return to usual activities the next day. Usually, a series of 3 to 6 treatments is recommended for optimal results.”

Q: DOES SKINPEN MICRONEEDLING HURT?

“SkinPen Microneedling is performed using a device that produces a tingling “prickly” sensation that is not actually painful. Our patients have a very comfortable experience due to the use of medical grade topical anesthetic cream applied for 30 to 60 minutes prior to the SkinPen Microneedling. The treatment may cause a temporary reddening for up to two days after treatment, creating a sensation similar to a mild sunburn. Men may be advised to postpone shaving of facial hair until irritation subsides following the procedure.”

Q: WHAT ARE THE SKINPEN MICRONEEDLING CARE INSTRUCTIONS?

“Prior to treatment, advise anti-aging product application for 12 hours, avoid sunburn, and inform us if you have a history of herpes (cold sores, fever blisters) so appropriate anti-viral medication can be prescribed if needed. Arrive with a clean face if that is the area to be treated.

After treatment, use any healing balms as recommended. For the first 24 hours, avoid direct sunlight, swimming, and exercise. The next day, it is ok to use medical sunscreen and makeup. Resume your usual anti-aging skin care after day 3.”

Q: WHAT IS VIRTUE RF (RADIOFREQUENCY) MICRONEEDLING?

“Virtue microneedling can be used on your face, neck, or body, is ideal for any skin type, and it is especially helpful in reducing acne scarring and fine lines. Improvements in pore size and texture are also seen. Virtue microneedling radio frequency (RF) is also used for non-surgical tightening and to combat early signs of loose or sagging skin in patients where surgery is not an option. We enhance your Virtue Experience with platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) or growth factor/stem cell serums if you choose.

Our Virtue Experience combines a specialized topical anesthetic (our “magic cream”), targeted microneedling with radiofrequency energy, and aftercare with Alastin Skin Nectar to help stimulate the skin. When applied to the skin, under topical anesthesia, sterile microneedles are used to create many microscopic channels deep into the dermis of the skin that can stay open for a limited amount of time, which stimulates the body to produce new collagen.

The best part is there is minimal to no pain and no recovery. Our patients love no downtime procedures!

Most patients do 3 treatments, once per month, to start and continue to take care of their skin with one treatment per year.”

Q: WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM VIRTUE RF (RADIOFREQUENCY) MICRONEEDLING TREATMENT?

“Anyone who wants to see improvements to their skin can benefit from Virtue RF. It is ideal for both men and women. It is very helpful with rolling or depressed acne scars, in conjunction with skin fillers such as Bellafil. The Virtue Experience can be customized for prevention – for younger patients, we often refer to this as “pre-juvenation”. Fine lines, mildly lax skin, redness, and some pore concerns also are improved with Virtue. Virtue is NOT ideal for smokers or sun worshippers.”

Q: HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR VIRTUE RF (RADIOFREQUENCY) MICRONEEDLING TREATMENT?

“There is no downtime after treatment and no preparation is necessary. The majority of our patients report that the treatment is painless, although you may experience a little discomfort as Virtue RF gently heats the targeted area underneath the epidermis.”

Q: HOW IS VIRTUE RF (RADIOFREQUENCY) MICRONEEDLING ADMINISTERED?

“Your skin in the treatment area is numbed prior to your treatment. Virtue microneedling involves the placement of a handheld device over the treatment area, and tiny needles puncture your skin, stimulating new collagen formation in your skin, in addition to triggering the production of skin-tightening hyaluronic acid and elastin. You may experience some redness afterward, but you will be able to resume your normal activities without downtime.”
