What to Expect After Broadband Light (BBL) Treatment

In Melbourne, FL

If you’re considering laser treatments to transform your skin, then it’s hard to beat Broadband Light technology. Recovery is key, however, to getting the results you want. At Dermatology + Plastic Surgery, we offer the most advanced skincare products and technologies available. Here’s what to know about your pre and post-treatment experience and what you can expect.

How to Prepare for Broadband Light Treatment

Before going for treatment, you’ll consult our team of skincare specialists to determine the right approach for your goals. Some patients are looking to improve skin firmness, reduce the appearance of age spots, correct uneven skin tone, or reduce the appearance of freckles, for example. Whatever your goals, you’ll discuss them at length and create a personalized treatment plan. Before your first treatment, it’s important to avoid tanning beds, spray tans and sunlight as well as medications that increase light sensitivity. Make sure to arrive to your appointment without makeup and skip using any skincare with active ingredients for a few days prior.

What to Expect During Broadband Light Treatment

This is a non-invasive and mild form of light therapy. However, it’s normal to experience some heat sensation during the laser treatment, so our team will supply a topical anesthetic after cleansing and preparing your skin. Then, the light energy handpiece will be applied to the skin in your treatment areas. Most patients report it feels like a light rubber band “snap.” Once the area is fully treated, your skin will be soothed and made ready for the rest of your day (including applying sunscreen).

Broadband Light Treatment Recovery and Results

Because BBL is gentle, most patients can return to their day-to-day routine after treatment. Make sure to use a light, unscented moisturizer on the skin and avoid any harsh or active ingredient skincare products for the first few days. Also avoid scrubbing or rubbing the skin since this can cause irritation. It’s essential to wear daily sunscreen of SPF 30+ to prevent sun damage while your skin recovers. Some of the potential side effects of BBL treatment include:

  • Being sun-sensitive for a couple of weeks
  • A mild sunburned appearance
  • Mild swelling
  • Mild skin sensitivity

It can take several weeks for your final results to emerge. During this time, your skin will produce healthy new collagen and shed unwanted pigmented cells. The result is brighter, clearer, plumper skin. For the best results, you may be advised a series of treatments and our team will ensure you know when to come back for your next appointment.
